I almost completely forgot my reason for posting about SACD and DVD-Audio…
I saw a Michael Jackson Thriller SACD on eBay, and the price was right, so I decided to bid. I won the auction, but upon receiving it in the mail, found out it was not the SACD I bid on, but rather a plain-jane Thriller CD (which I already owned). I contacted the seller, informing her of the mess-up, and her response was, "I am SO sorry for the mix up…I see now where the listing says it is a SACD and I totally did not even know what that meant".

I think the disclaimers for SACD and DVD-A should read, "For audiophiles only." That has to be the only reason why these two formats are not mass marketed.
I went to University Audio here in Madison, and that is where I learned about the acousticsounds.com website. The guy I talked to down there kind of liked it that SACD/DVD-A are not mass marketed and that the people that are really into it, are the people who LOVE listening to great music, especially in 5.1. It doesn't surprise me one bit about your Michael Jackson "SACD" you bought.

Poor MPO. You gotta ask question about stuff before you buy. Do you think I would have flown to Portland if I didn't? Although Joe C. did go blind.
Mike O - My favorite neighborhood cd shop (Decatur CD) doesn't sell SACDs because too many people returned them claiming that they "didn't work". He decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Your x-country trek in the VW bug with Joe C. is defintely worthy of a blog posting (or a series of them). Perhaps I will do a one-year anniversary salute to your trip when the time comes.
But now that I think about it, you should write a book. The world would be a better place after hearing your story...or at least a little more entertained.
